Being the Head Brewer of Beer Baroness and of growing new brand Southpaw, Cameron Burgess knows all about the challenges (and rewards) of contract brewing. Come hear him talk about his very own juggling act.
Wander down a fruity path with Belinda from Brew Moon and hear about the sorts of styles and fruits that are creating a unique relationship between beer and fruit.

For five generations, the Michael family have been growing malt barley in Canterbury. Doug and Gabi Michael now steer this ship and these guys definitely know a thing or two about getting the grain to the glass.

Head along to hear about the evolution of craft beer in Christchurch from one of the cities longest-standing brands, Wigram Brewing.
Once again the Society of Beer Advocates (SOBA) invites you to ‘The Brewer’s Table’ – an opportunity for you to expand your mind about craft beer.
Every hour, on the hour, from midday to 5pm, people involved in the craft beer movement will be on hand to talk about craft beer related topics. Sessions will commence with a short presentation, after which there’ll be an opportunity for you to ask any questions. And you never know; in the past brewers have been known to bring along something special for sampling!
SOBA also invites you to head along to their marquee at any time to find out about more about who they are and what they do, or just to chat with fellow beer lovers. They can even sign you up on the day if you’d like to join them.
THE BEER LIBRARY
Certified beer judge, certified beer server and graduate of the Siebel Institue of Technology brewing school, Garth moved to Christchurch from the bright lights of Chicago.
Unable to find a place to purchase great craft beers in his new home city, Garth decided to solve his own problem and that's The Beer Library came to be.
The musings of someone who accidentally ended up owning a brewery, who doesn't really want to do things the easy way; by juggling two brands that are both brewing some interestingly different styles.
You will probably hear some ramblings about how medals and awards look nice and seem to find their way to him by accident... and of course there'll be some tastings!
Mark will reflect on how the industry looked 26 years ago, how it has changed and consolidating their sites after a quarter of a century in the business!
He will also cover the importance of quality - investment into equipment, being HACCAP approved and doing a product recall.
And let's not forget the beer! Mark's session will include a little mention of a couple of local favourites - Rogue Hop and Ngahere Gold.
They brew in a stone basement in Oamaru, at a 100 litres per brew day, essential commerical home brewers.
Craftwork began in 2014, and much has happened since... come and hear their story.

EMPORIUM BREWING, KAIKOURA
Finney is from Emporium Brewing in Kaikoura. Come and hear how the town is recovering and find out a bit about his history of brewing with some odd ingredients which have ranged from beetroot to KFC!
The Great Kiwi Beer Festival presents another amazing lineup of NZ’s favourite musicians.Dave Dobbyn, alongside Sola Rosa, Swamp Thing, The Eastern and Assembly Required will provide the beats to go with your brews.
Dave Dobbyn says that since day one, he has had a tune in his head.
In 40 years as a recording artist, he has written the soundtrack to Kiwi lives, with a string of hits including ‘Slice of Heaven’,‘Beside You’, ‘Be Mine Tonight’, ‘Loyal’ and ‘Oughta Be in Love’.
Sola Rosa is one of Kiwi music’s most evolutionary and enduring acts.
With seven full-length albums, four EPs, a handful of hits, countless collaborations and numerous world tours, the songs seamlessly blend a myriad of genres, from hip-hop and jazz, to neo-soul, latin and funk.
Swamp Thing play every show like it is their last, making a sound that reaches far back into the musical DNA of roots music.
Their energetic live performances are renowned for inspiring concert goers to get up and dance, while showcasing a wealth of musical experience.
The Eastern are a string band that roars like a punk band, that swings like a gospel band, and drinks like a country band..
Whether roaring as their big six-piece string band or swinging the loud lonesome sound as a three piece, The Eastern can hold it down in all settings for all comers.
Known for their energetic and entertaining live performances Chch based duo 'Assembly Required' are a subtle blend of hard hitting guitars and powerfully raw vocals.
Armed with a rhythm section they will be bringing their eclectic brand of melodic blues inspired folk rock to The Great Kiwi Beer Festival.

We’ve assembled a stellar lineup of culinary talent in the Cooking Theatre - from local heroes to internationally renowned chefs, and they’re all at the festival to share their unique take on beer and food matching.

Alex Davies from Gatherings nailed the food accolades in 2017 with his restaurant Gatherings being named ‘Best New Metropolitan Restaurant’ by Cuisine Magazine, as well as being awarded a prestigious One Hat rating.

Join David & his head chef Josh as they put on an impromptu demonstration showing how they come up with a dish using surprise ingredients selected by David, that reflects this diversity. So basically, the workings of a Chef’s mind.

Don’t miss the crowd favourites at Arin Sushi and Dumplings. As the name suggests, the team at Arin have lovingly prepared fresh sushi, pan-fried dumplings and succulent chicken kebabs - all cooked to order!
Indian with attitude! Arjee Bhajee present a taste of India with their exquisite curries – all served with rice. Gluten free options available. For smaller bites, try their range of nibbles including famous onion bhajees (GF), chicken pakoras and vegetable samosas. KUNG FU DUMPLINGS
Authentic Kathmandu momo dumplings lovingly hand crafted in Kaiapoi, freshly steamed to perfection when you order. Served with exotic mouth-watering sauces.
LIAM’S HUNGARIAN LANGOS
Langos is a Hungarian style fried bread, a favourite street and fair food. It is served with a choice of garlic and sea salt, walnut and watercress pesto, jalapeno and 4 herb harissa or feta and tomato herb salad. Liam’s takes the hungry out of Hungarian!
Liberty Dogs will be selling Cuban sandwiches, American hotdogs and homemade churros drizzled in chocolate, salted caramel or strawberry.
NATIVE THAI FOOD
New to the festival, Native Thai food caravan will be serving up a delicious array of Thai food including stir fried noodles, curry and finger food.
Radish offers delicious street food, brown rice boxes & handcrafted sandwiches with Japanese and Asian inspired ingredients. Try one of their teppan teriyaki sandwiches or Japanese fried chicken brown rice boxes.
Smoked Marlborough return with their incredible barbequed manuka- smoked bacon, avocado and rocket rolls. Showcasing great flavours from the Marlborough region, including Rai Valley bacon, locally grown avocados and fresh rocket salad.
THE BURGER JOINT
With a focus on locally sourced, quality ingredients The Burger Joint sells delicious gourmet burgers from a beautifully restored 1961 Starliner caravan. “Real Food, Real Local” is the mantra for this business with their burgers being a good size, wholesome and filling with no need for extras on the side!
THE FOOD DEN
Serving a wide selection of snacks and meals to complement your beer including crayfish sandwiches, whitebait sandwiches, hot chips, hot dogs and American hot dogs, bacon butties, burgers, slushies, cold drinks, candy floss and popcorn. Gluten-Free available on full menu.
THE GOURMET HANGI KITCHEN
The Gourmet Hangi Kitchen serves up Maori, Polynesian and Kiwi street food. Try their gourmet hangi and secret gravy, hangi pork rolls, stuffed fried bread and sliders, chop suey, fresh smoked mussels, oysters, kinas and more.
THE LITTLE THAI KITCHEN
The Little Thai Kitchen are offering up delicious grilled satay chicken skewers served with homemade Thai style peanut sauce and grilled Thai style pork skewers. Thai street food that is full of colour and flavour.

The Vagabond Chefs will be serving their signature style of street food with a twist. Their increasingly popular menu draws influences from around the globe. Steamed, pickled, torched and tossed - big flavours skewer every Vagabond feast.
THE WHITEBAIT PEOPLE
As the name suggests, you can trust these guys to make great West Coast whitebait patties. Other kiwi delicacies on the menu today are mussel fritters and Chatham Island paua patties.
UNCLE JO’S ASIAN CUISINE
Uncle Jo's offers a range of Asian dishes on both rice and bread rolls to suit the tastes of the west and the east. A wide selection of dishes complemented with traditional and modern sauces.
Wild Az return with their infamous pork belly burger served with Asian-slaw, aioli, coriander and salsa on an artisan style bun. Their garlic escargots are another crowd pleaser. They pride themselves on serving quality food with speed and friendly service.

BRING YOUR TICKETS & ID - Remember this a family festival but you must be 18+ to drink alcohol. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult... Kids 13 and under are free!
BRING CASH - We do have EFTPOS machines on site however cash will make your life much easier.
COME PREPARED - sunblock, hat and sunnies if it looks to be fine day, and drink responsibly.
PLEASE LEAVE FOOD & DRINK AT HOME - Our amazing selection of breweries and food vendors have everything you could possibly want, from beer and cider (of course), to wine, soft drinks, coffee and all sorts of delicious meals and snacks.
ARRANGE TRANSPORT - There is no public car parking for this event in Hagley Park. Please come by bus, bike, on foot or get dropped off. There is some (time restricted) street parking near-by, or use one of the many public car parks in the vicinity.
